Why do I have brown patches on my otherwise green lawn?

Question:Lawn seems healthy except for three or four brown patches.

Answers:
probably where a dog peed on it. It will kill the grass.

If it started out yellow, then turned brown, it is pet urine. If it turned brown immediately, it could be a number of grass diseases, most likely "brown patch."

Brown patch lawn disease is one of the most destructive of all turf grass diseases. It sneaks up on you and destroys large areas of turf virtually overnight when the weather conditions are just right.

Brown patch lawn disease isn't picky; it attacks a wide variety of grass types, and really likes the lawns receiving large amounts of fast release nitrogen fertilizer. It is a summer disease and can spread. Brown patch is caused by a fungus and is the most damaging of all turf grass diseases.

You can get fungicides for treating it at your local garden center.
Dog pee could certainly be the cause but if you were fertilizing you might have spilled some and burned the grass (it will come back) or you might have moles pushing the sod up as they look for grubs.
you might have cut it too short, that can cause it to turn brown or maybe itdidn't get enough sunlight.
If you fed your lawn recently you may have put to much on these areas the nitrogen in the lawn feed can cause scorching if it is not spread evenly if this is the case don't worry it will eventually fade
