If I plant zucchini and cucumbers close together, will they cross-pollinate?
Question:I planted zucchini and cucumbers really close to each other, and the zucchinis look weird. They have a hook on them. The cukes look kind of funny too, like large hooked dill pickles. I did this one year with different melons and squash and got a bunch of unedible weird looking crap. HELP!

No, that's an urban myth. Cucs and squash are not the same species. Only members of the same species can cross pollinate. Your cucs are probably curled because they are on the ground and not hanging. Here is an article that explains why it's not cross pollination.

not likely,in fact i've planted every other hill either pickles or zuchinni,doesn't effect them,now,if you want weird,plant hot peppers near sweet ones,they will cross pollenate for a hot surprise
Totally different plants... Zucchini grows in a clump, and Pickles on a vine. Totally unrelated. No cross pollinization

Never had it happen personally. I have cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant and butternut squash all planted within a 6x6 raised bed, with the cukes to the back. No cross pollination this year or in previous years.
Yes! they will! So, if you want a pure product, don't do it! However, if you're feeling adventurous, GO FOR IT!
