WHERE can an enviro-gal in Winnipeg, Cda find a stylie rain barrel?
Question:Don't want to make one because I like the groovy spouts at the bottoms & tight-fitting screens on the top of the professionally made barrels. Don't want one that looks like it belongs in recycling. Any suggestions from the world out there?

Let me get this straight, you don't want to build one, you don't want to buy one and you don't want a recycled one. Whats left? Let me tell you about mine anyway. I built it out of a square 100gal. plastic carboy that was used for ag chemicals. I built a 30" stand out of treated 4x4's and covered it in the same cedar planks as my privacy fencing. The bung valve on the tank is a large 2" grey plastic 1/4 turn petcock - cool looking ! I did have to add a 2" pipe extension to reach out through the planking. I screwed a 3x6" PVC reducing coupling in one of carboy's top bungs to act as a funnel for the down spout with no screen. I got my carboy by forfeiting a $50 deposit. The rest was all leftover fencing. Now every one in my garden club wants me to build them one. Although a "friend" lacking any culture, claimed it looks like an outhouse on stilts, what does he know !! RScott
I have seen them for sale at garden centers, at the farm stores and even online. They usually look pretty ugly (big plastic barrel), but I have seen people paint theirs up to look really cute. I saw one painted to look like an old wine/wiskey barrel...very rustic looking, and another with pink flamingos...options are as endless as your imagination!
With paint, you can make it look any way you want! ...and still have the benefits of a professionally made barrel.
Good luck!
