If fertilizer gets wet, is it still any good?

Question:I have a bag of fertilizer that got soaked over the winter in my shed. Will it still be good after it dries? Or whould I discard it and buy a new bag?

Answers:
If it is a lawn fertilizer, then it is pretty much ruined as far as using it for this purpose. The reason being, that when you finally do get it dry, it will have clumped up on you. This makes it hard to use in a fertilizer spreader. The clumps get clogged up in the spreader opening and you will never be able to use it effectively. However, all is not lost. You can still utilize it after it has dried out, even if it is a little clumpy. If you have trees and shrubs in your landscape, you can toss a handful around the base of each plant. This way, you don't have to dispose of it, and your landscape still gets a shot of food at the same time.. You can store it in the shed and use it until it is totally gone. I would however, buy a new bag if it is going to be used on the lawn. Hope this answers your question.

Buy a new bag. The nitrogen in the fertilizer will evaporate if it gets wet. You can go ahead and spread it on your lawn for any effects it may still possess, but a new bag is in order.
Once it gets wet the chemical reaction has started and the nitrgen leaves the fertiliser which is vital to a plant. Get rid of it and get some more. It must stay dry .
