Tips on starting a "hard to start" lawn boy push mower.?
Question:I have a lawn boy 5hp pupsh mower that is extremely hard to start. I had another one given to me because the owner gave up on it because it was so hard to start.
Does anyone have any tips on how to start easier?

Try changing the spark plug, and check all the wires, to make sure there is not something loose. Also, the carb. could be defective, and you are not getting enough fuel, to start it. I always go to the spark plug first, and just put a new one in there, as they are easy to change. The best lawnmower out there is the honda. I use them commercially, and they are the best.
sounds like that style has design issues. clean the carb, clean air filter, clean fuel filter (if it has one)adjust the choke. im guessing it has no pimer bulb. when all else fails, spray a little starter fluid in the carb and hold your palm over the top of the carb for a forced choke
Try spraying starter fluid into the air intake before you start, cleaning the air filter everytime you mow, and maybe a new spark plug.
Do all the basic stuff you would do to your car. New plug, new air filter. and maybe a new fuel filter if it has one. But a new plug for sure.
