Sprinkler system question?
Question:I have a 23'x15' front lawn and I'm installing an underground sprinkler system. The water pressure is 70 psi and I'm laying the pipe down a 10" deep trench. . Is it ok to use 3/4" sched. 40 pvc pipe? And when the sprinkler head has a 25'-45' range does that mean that it can't be adjusted to less than 25' ?anymore?
Answers:
3/4 is fine for that small an area. Because the zone is so small and you have that much pressure, you will want to use pressure regulated pop-up sprayers- otherwise you might have a lot of misting. Sprayers that mist do not cover the ground well because the slightest wind takes the water away.
The 25'-45' range specified on the sprinkler head means that with such-and-such amount of pressure and such-and-such nozzle, you will get such-and-such distance. It does not necessarily mean it can be adjusted to 25', especially if you have a lot of pressure and only a few heads on the zone. The 25'-45' range sounds like a rotor. You have too small an area to use a rotor.
I would use 4" pressure regulated pop-up sprayers in the 4 corners, with 18' adjustable nozzles on the sprayers. You should get good coverage with this set up.
thats what it sounds like to me, but shop around , there are 100's of different heads to meet your watering needs
Yes and Yes
Sounds OK so far. I'd suggest that if you want to use 3/4" schedule 40, you use 1/2" risers (you'd need a 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 tee at each riser). Most of the irrigation supplies (Rain Bird, Toro, etc.) tend to be in 1/2" material. And yes, you're right, you won't be able to adjust the sprinkler head below 25'.
