Is Air Conditioner water filled with bad chemicals?

Question:Our air conditioner is also a very effective dehumidifier. We get a HUGE bucket full of water that goes down the drain 2x a day.

What's in this water? Is it clean (pulled straight from the air) or is it full of chemicals after being circulated through the AC? I was thinking of using it on some houseplants/trees in the summer, because we get so much of it. It seems somewhat wasteful to just toss it all down the drain...but I don't want to if its harmful to plants/animals

Any inside info on whats in it?

Answers:
A dehumidifier sucks the moisture out of the air in your house along with all the water borne bacteria. The longer the water sits in a container the more the bacteria multiply. My cats have their own dehumidifier next to their litterboxes to keep down the smell. Ya oughta smell that water when I dump it. I surely wouldn't suggest drinking it..but it may be fine for trees and plants. Ever notice how much fresher the air smells after you turn on the A/C? It's the dehumidifying effect taking the water out of the air along with water borne bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants. Personally...I'd let it go down the drain. The freon in the A/C is not adding anything because it's a sealed system...but...It is a giant dirt magnet.

Its Not. Its Ok To Drink It. Dont Worry.
It should be fine for plants. I would assume is is rather clean it only comes in contact with the outside of some of the parts so it would only contain what it washes off the outside of the AC unit. I would not recomend drinking it though.
its ok to use on plants.. its mostly condensation from the AC's radiator! i use the water on my plants all the time! ( think green LOL) good luck
That is the remains of humidity left over from inside your home. It is perfectly safe water and probably has less dangerous stuff in it than your tap water.
all this water is is condensate from coils in a/c... it is same as sweat from a/c pipes or drips from a car. Pipes get down to 30ish and form water on them as result... It has only what the pipes or air has in it...
do not drink,it's dirty from the ac parts, but no chems, safe for the plants
