I just started using Scotts PatchMaster to fix a bare spot on my lawn. How much should I water the area?

Question:It says to water twice a day, but how long should I water it for each time??

Answers:
Assuming you have the hose on full using a shower setting, a good rule of thumb I use when watering is to count to 50 (one Mississippi...two Mississippi). That should last two days for a large 36" potted plant.

So for a small patch of grass being watered twice a day I'd say a count of 30. Once in the early morning and once in the early evening. Before you next water stick your finger into the soil and feel if it's still wet from the last watering. If it's dry to about an inch down before dirt sticks to your fingers that means you did ok and are just topping up. If it's bone dry as far as you can reach, raise the count. This is just to keep the soil moist to set seeds. Once the grass starts you want to water to a count of 50 in the same place or set up a sprinkler for the whole lawn to run until it fills an empty tuna can.

Watering longer and deeper actually helps the grass send deeper roots. This helps the grass survive better through dry spells. Keep your grass cut at a higher 2 inch length to help it shade the soil from the drying sun. If you cut often the grass clippings will be so small you won't have to rake, it will provide a mini mulch and the worms will bring them underground and fertilize the lawn at the same time.

just keep it moist and never let it dry out for a long period,,,,, a soaker hose works great. just turn it on and let it run.no wasted water..... just keep it moist till it sprouts then water once a day till its mowable
