I planted 40 Norway Spruce a few weeks ago. Fifteen of them have turned brown and lost their needles. Dead?
Question:I have waterd them every 4-5 days as instructed if there is no rain. The other 25 are doing very well. Is there hope for them?
Answers:
It sound like some of the trees have gone into shock, but as long as you give them plenty of water and fertilizer, they should come back.
dead as a door nail- take them back and get a refund
Sorry to say that once they all turn brown they are dead and will not return.
I would certainly dig them up, take them back.
To be on the safe side, if all the dead ones were in the same general area, I would recommend having the soil tested before replanting - there may be a generalized problem with the soil.
It's worth a shot.
Good luck.
if you can use a pocket knife to scrape a little bark if there is some green you have life!shock can be a bummer
Probably not. If it's in season for them to be nice and green (as in right now) and they're not. They're probably "diseased trees". There are certain bugs out there (can't remember what they're called) that burrough into the bark of the tree and kill the tree. If you find out that has happened, you need to cut down the tree and get rid of the bugs. They will tend to move to other live trees and kill them too.
If you fertilized them, this could be your problem, DO NOT FERTILIZE THE FIRST YEAR! I was told this when I planted my trees, I did it in the past and it killed my trees.
