Ok...where do snails come from?
Question:I dig holes and never find them!! It rains and they are all over..
Answers:
They don't live in the gorund like worms, that I know. I believe they hang out in dark and really damp places like under rocks, boards (on the ground), in between plants stems, under dead leaves. They only come out at night. If it rains sometimes they are out to avoid drowning in their hidey places.
are they snails or slugs... snails have shells and sligs do not...
unfortunately i dont know where they come from.. sorry!
They hide in dark, moist places. You can find them hiding in ivy or any plant that gives them a place to hide. If you put out some snail bait they'll be drawn to it, eat and die.
they like moist dark places to hide during the day. underneath your flowerpots or leaves and cracks and crevices. they usually come out at night or after rain. putting out small saucers of beer will kill them. they also sell snail/slug baits that kill them too.
they originally came from God. But why are you digging holes? They hide in the daytime, go looking at night if you want to find them away from their hiding places. They hide in deep shade, moist or dry. Slugs will have to hide in deep shade 'and' moisture.
I have a similar problem. The thing about snails is that they live in what they eat, which is often weeds and decaying leaves, etc. Snails don't really hide, they just find a place to rest for the day until they can come out, usually at night, and eat their way through your garden. When you weed, try to remove anything that a snail could live in/eat; decaying plant matter, branches from shrubs that are laying on the ground/dead, anything a slug or cnail could live in and under. Especially rotting boards, moist rocks, large sticks, anything organic on the ground that its moist a lot. If you have a raised bed, lining the outside of the bed walls with a two to three inch wide band of copper will stop any snails or slugs from creeping up the sides and into the bed, but since copper is expensive right now that might not be such a good idea. Another good thing to do is find out where the snails seem to gather often; for example, is there a compost bin that if you walk by it in the morning or evening is covered in snails and slugs? Just take a stick and poke 'em up, throw 'em away. Or if you prefer to be less cruel or physical, you can set out an open can of beer for a night or two inside your house, let it get stale, and pour some of it into a bowl. Set the bowl outside near an area or plant that the snails frequent, and they will be attracted to it, climb inside and drown. In my opinion, its best not to use chemicals in the garden, because of the environmental effects and I don't want to have my dog, family or myself around chemicals. And I like spending time in the garden, so that makes a problem for me. Anyway, there are lots of online resources with pther tips as well if this isn't much help. Hope your question has been answered!
they hide in left over dead plant material, under dead logs.. u name it and they hide there! they are also "asexual".. so if they can't find a mate. they do it themselves.. they have both "parts!"
Other snails lay eggs and when the eggs hatch...viola, more snails.
