Does anyone have any tips for a successful yard-sale? My family and i have tried everything!!?
Question:We have priced everything low, displayed it nicely, and try to be helpful, (but not too bothersome!) Yet we get people trying to talk us down on price, antique dealers telling us what is worthless, ect. Does anybody else have this much fun at their yardsales?
Answers:
getting together w/a couple of neighbors combined, increases sales
mark the prices up, and then let them haggle
don't listen to antique dealers
[just one u know and can trust]
Wow, sounds like you've done everything right. You can try serving fresh baked cookies and lemonade too. The fun part of going to garage sales is the bartering, if you are really trying to get rid of the stuff, make the buyers great deals. If you are just trying to make money, try EBay or Craig's List.
Price some items actually higher than you really want and then when they ask the price tell them it was...so and so but I will let you have it for whatever...they think they are getting a good deal and most of the time people will try and barter too much...nothing you can do about that. I have also told people that I could not sell it for whatever price they want but if they wait till the sell is over and come back then they can get it then if I still have it.
Remember, it is a yard sale, not Macy's. Consider the type of people that are coming. People think if they are in an upscale neighborhood they will be getting nicer stuff.
Try getting your neighbors to have a sale the same time you are. A community sale would be great. Be pleasant when people stop by even if it's just to look. There is a possiblity you are being too helpful. Let them look and ask the questions. Do not offer suggestions as you really don't know what they are looking for.
