Why do plants always face the sun?
Question:
Answers:
Why do you always face your food? Same reason.
They are drawn to what they need: sunlight!
to collect light for photosyntisis
Photosynthesis
because the sun is their source of energy.
they face it to maximize their exposure to the sun's rays.
because they grow better that way.
They turn toward their source of energy
Phototropism.
Phototropism is the tendency of plants to grow towards a source of light. This is not so evident in plants that are in the open, because the light source--the sun--moves throughout the day. However, if a plant is indoors, with sunlight coming from a single direction, the phototropic tendency is more pronounced.
This tendency helps the plant to expose the greatest amount of leaf surface area to the light. When light exposure is maximized, photosynthesis is most efficient. Photosynthesis is the method by which plants use light to create food.
obviously becuase they need sunlight to thrive. the leaves turn until they are getting the optimal amount of sunlight.
That's how they get there nutrients; from the sun. So they face the sun. Photosynthesis
in order to grow the plants in th sun/sunlight. .genesis
Solar rays diminish the plants cells on the side facing the sun, causing it to lean and thereby giving the appearance that the plant is growing toward the sun. But this has been proven not to be a conscious decision on the plant's part, but rather a side effect of exposure to solar rays.
Isn't Nature clever?
The sun is the plants source of energy, it collects light for photosynthisis
actually...in the wee early morning...you will find them reaching the other way
What do you think they "eat"? Burger King?
They are simply drawn to the light to perform their natural function of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis being the formation of carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and a source of hydrogen(water) in the chlorophyll-containing tissues of plants exposed to light.
