Help about lawns!?
Question:my science teacher told me that when you give a lawn too much water, it turns yellow. she also told me that when there is too little water, it turns brown.
is that true? or is it the other way around(too much water turns brown, too little water turns yellow)?
Answers:
As a general rule, it's not far from the truth.
Too little water and most plants will dry and brown, before dieing - this includes grasses.
Over-watering, expecially with bad drainage, can cause the plant to stress, and the soil will loose oxygen etc, that the roots need. We've been having torrential rain recently, mine's mostly green, but some is yellowed a little. If it went to excess, and it ended up swimming, it would eventually start to rot and go brown - so your theory is somehow correct too!
yes over watering your yard and not watering it both cause it to change color
I don't think you can water a lawn too much. I water mine at least an hour a day, 3x a week. I have the best looking lawn in town! At worst, you will get moss, then just cut back on the water, you'll be fine. Regards-Bob.
I wish it was that simple, what type of soil has more to do with how well a lawn stays green or turns brown more than anything. If its rocky soil the water goes right thru and doesn't keep the lawn green no matter how much you water.
