Can green appples be ripe this time of year?

Question:my green apple tree is dropping its fruit it is a really old tree last year was the first year in this house. it had one apple and had not been watered or cared for in years. now this year it has lots growing in many clumps together but they are falling off the tree and seem semi ripe my horses like the fallen ones. is this a early fruiting tree?

Answers:
Yes!!! Last year I thought the same thing as you as I associate ripe apples with autumn! Unfortunately, I wasted almost all the apples. So get on it and start making pies or just eat them. Take a bite of one and you will know! Enjoy!

Could be..Granny smith is the name of an apple that is green when ripe. But most likely, you are experiencing "fruit drop". You said the fruit in hanging in clumps, which means they haven`t been "thinned out". Always thin out the apples early in the season to a space of 6" - 8" apart. It will actually produce more and bigger fruits than if left to nature. Wind will naturally blow some off. It probably is "out of balance" also, and will need pruning this fall, to get roots and foliage back in proper proportion. Also, dry weather will do this....
