Does anybody know how to kill a tree?
Question:Actually is a tree that is in the neighbour's yard but it shade is messing up plants in my side. I suggested to cut off some branches but my neighbour has ignored this. Now, I am thinking of solving the problem myself by killing the tree WITHOUT him noticing I did it. Any ideas?

Just trim off the branches that hang over into your yard...if it's a big deal...thats legal. You still have to live next to these people right?

I have a hard time believing you're much into plants if you want to cut down a tree so you can grow some weeds in your backyard, tree killer! now I'm all emotional and I told myself I wasn't going to be emotional over such an insensitive question! the tree is there to help you, maybe someday lightning will hit the tree and avoid you so you might want to leave it up. and the birds may build nests in the tree instead of your window sill. and so will the bees. And when the termites come and they will, they will eat the tree first so you can prepare for them so just, leave the tree alone! hug the tree you tree hugger you know you want to, just kiss it and make up! Life's too short to fight about nonsense!~

I have been told that by driving copper nails in and around the base or roots it will eventually kill the tree.

well i dont like cruelty against nature but i say clorox or some chemical on the roots.
My neighbor lets out their cats and dogs and watches while they come over in my yard to poop. By your logic do you think I should kill their pets?
I think the only way you can kill it is to uproot it. And they'd notice.
Are the branches you want to cut on your side of the fence? I think you're allowed to cut those ones.

If the branches of his tree are entering over your property line you have every right to cut them. But don't kill the tree.. poor tree it means no harm. Maybe go late at night and cut some branches.. it's not like he can glue them back on haha

In most states in the U.S. you are allowed to trim overhanging branches. That is branches that lap over the property line. You are not allowed to kill a tree, that is wicked.
ACK!! The tree may be a nuisance to you, but it is still your neighbor's property. Try to talk it out. If that doesn't work, you can try to move your plants so the shade doesn't "mess them up".

I would definitely steer clear of any chemicals, especially if you eat any of the plants near it. It's really hard to do this without screwing up other things around it. Why don't you ask them to foot half the bill with you to have it trimmed up professionally? Professional documents are better when working with neighbors anyways.
i dont what state you live in but around here there is a law (really) that says if a neighbors tree is over the proberty line you have the right to cut it up to your property line without getting in trouble
Pure round up concentrate ( DO NOT DILUTE ) depending on how big the tree is. It sounds pretty big. If so I don't know if you can do it w/o him noticing but drill a diagonal hole in the trunk and pour it straight into the trunk. Or if there any big roots on your property do the same thing.
just cut lt down but make sure you get the root out or lt will for sure grow back again
This is bad. Did you ever stop and think of the tree? Why is everyone intent on killing everything in their paths to gain something? Leave it alone!
Plant different plants, because unless the tree is hanging onto your property, then you don't really have any legal reason to kill the tree (and even if the tree is hanging onto your property, there are only certain things you can do). Maybe you could offer to trim the tree for your neighbor and clean up after?
