Mimosa tree is leaves are turning? Help!?
Question:The leaves are turnig a redish color I don't think this normal.
Answers:
Hard to say why. It sounds stressed, but without seeing it, and its site, I don't know what is stressing it.
If you lived near me, my best guess is that it needs water. We're practically in a drought. If you haven't had much rain, set a hose right on the root ball, and turn it on to a trickle. Leave it for about 45 minutes.
Slow watering is better, since fast watering will mostly run off. This may be especially true in really dry contions, as overly dry soil will not absorb water well. The slow trickel will ensure that the root ball is slowly and evenly soaked. Do this about once a week during very dry and hot weather.
IF "dry" is the reason, this may help the overall health of the tree, though you may not see the leaves turn green again this year if they've already turned.
If this tree is important to you, I'd recommend getting a professional opinion from an arborist who can see the tree in person. They could inspect it for insect and diease troubles as well.
How old is it? Has it been watered regularly/fertilized? Have any pesticides or chemicals been dumped nearby?
