How long for my lawn to come through?

Question:if i planted grass seed at weekend how long will it take to have a lawn.or is there sumthing i can use to speed it as i have to young boys and a puppy who love going out there.

Answers:
If you used good grass seed and fertilizer it should start growing in a about a week. It will take quite awhile longer to become a thick matte though. They shouldn't play on it until it has time to thicken up. It thickens faster if you don't cut it right away too. This Helen encouraging you to grow weeds in your lawn is full off bull. She doesn't know what she is talking about. Nice lawn grows perfectly without weeds.

With the current temperatures it should not take long to start germination. Just keep it moist by watering a couple of times a day and by the end of this week you will see the little buggers start ts sprout. It will be a couple of weeks however before the grass becomes thich enough and well established enough to tolerate play from you child and pet.
It should start to sprout in 7 to 10 days but of course it will be very sparce. It will probably be long enough to lightly cut at the end of the season but won't be a proper lawn until next year. Do not feed young grass seed or it will "burn " and be killed. you could have used turf which is instant lawn but costs more than seed.
It is the best time for grass because its raining and it will take few weeks before it will grow and try to avoid walking on the lawn unless you see any growth. Just water it and try to keep it wet and it is a long process.
to have a robust lawn - with 2 boys and a puppy, you'll need it! - encourage daisies, dandelions, buttercups and any other flowers that settle in. The monoculture 'just grass' lawn won't last.

We've got daisies, dandelions, self-heal, sorrel, vetch, buttercups, and a bunch I haven't learned to recognise yet - but we love them all!

i done mine early june and it had its 1st cut over the weekend. i think the rain made it speed up a little. water it loads
If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, this is not a good time to plant grass. It is very difficult to keep the seedlings healthy in the high temperatures of summer.

The best time to sow grass seed is in the fall, second best is in the spring. It will take several months before the grass is sturdy enough to take dog and boy traffic. A faster way is to sod the area. You can do that now, will need to water every day for about 2 weeks and keep them off it for that time, then you can use it.
