I never heard that one; but sprinkling ammonia around where they are getting into trash cans etc will keep them away
If not your only hope is trapping them and turning them loose 29 miles away (why 29? who knows but that is what the Dept of Conservation says) You can buy traps at Lowes, or Home Depot or a place called Harbor Frights for about $15.00. And by the way they love popcorn.
