French Purple Garlic? What type is it?
Question:I've just come back from Picardy in France and we bought the most fantastic garlic at a market, it was very large and purplish in colour, easy to peel and tasted fantastic albeit a hell of a lot more expensive than ordinary garlic, but worth it. Can anyone tell me which type it is as I'd love to grow some, we did intend saving a couple of bulbs, but it tasted so nice in everything, by the time I remembered we'd eaten the lot! It really is a lovely, smooth, not a harsh garlic. Thanks.

you'll love the hints on this site.
Sometimes stores call it elephant garlic by its size- but it is just purple garlic.
I don't think that it's elephant garlic, I grow that as well as several purple varieties.
Try www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk they supply lots of different types including purples.
I think it is called Toulouse garlic, you can get bulbs from Wight Garlic and it will grow in the UK.
