How do I deadhead pansies?

Question:I've been tasked with watering and deadheading some pansies but I don't know where to pinch off the old dead blooms. If you pull on them, they come right out of the green base of the flower very easily. Should I be doing this, or do I have to pinch off the whole green base of the bloom as well?

Answers:
You can remove only the spent flower and the stem will fall off naturally, but you will get a tidier look if you go ahead and remove the whole stem.

It will look less stunning if you only remove the dried heads...but is ultimately better for the plant itself. With pansies you will find the head gets dry , take your finger, pinch below the dry head and pull upwards.
I snip off the stalk and the faded bloom with a small pair of scissors.. works great!
