Is this the lucky bamboo? If so try planting it in a pot with good potting soil that does not clump. The plant is Dracaeda sandriana it is not bamboo at all. If you gave the roots a "hair cut" you may have done too much damage and the plant may not recover. A slight prune is good but best done in spring so the plant has the best time of year to recover. Give it good bright light and take off any bottom leaves that are yellowing. The bright light will help the plant to photosynthesize more food, and stop the leves from yellowing and falling off. Could you cut a stalk into 6 inch pieces and place them all standing up with their feet in water until the stalks develop some roots then transfer to potting soil..
