Can anyone tell me if you put a shoot of bamboo in water or directly in dirt will it take root?

Question:

Answers:
both will work. you can support the bamboo with sponge if you're using the water approach.

Water first and after it forms roots you can transfer it.
Putting the cutting directly into the ground does not work. I tried this already. But have not tried the water approach. Would love to know if this works for you.
You can strat it in water, then into soil when roots are developed
No bamboo shoots will not root in water or dirt.

You can propagate tropical clumpers using culm cuttings, whole culm burial, or division.

For runners you can only take divisions as it will not propagate any other way.

That is except via seed and bamboo rarely flowers and sets seed.

How do I know? I grow and propagate over 15 varieties of bamboo and have friends who have many more than that.
