I am not a gardener so can someone tell me if i supposed to cut the dead heads of my peonies.?

I never have mine and we have had ours for years and it is huge. Others are suggesting you do, so I guess it can't hurt either way. We cut ours back in the fall and it always shots right back up in the spring. Went from a .75 cent 1/2 dead plant to a huge bush now.
