Zone 5 plants for early Fall, September?

Question:I live in Michigan and am wondering about certain flowers and plants that I could plant that would flower right away. Beginning Early September.

Answers:
I live in Clinton County, Michigan (Just north of Lansing). The stars in my garden in September are: 1) Sedums 2) Chrysanthemums 3)Asters and 4) Clematis.

If you're new at this, I'd start with the chrysanthemums and sedums. They're easier to take care of. Chrysanthemums have a wide variety of colors. Sedums have interesting foliage and colors ranging from reds to pinks (that I have seen up here.)

Whatever you do, have fun and enjoy your garden!

Garden stores in your area will absolutely fill up with mums and ornamental kales and cabbages. All Instant color, and all will florish through the cold weather. The ornamental kales and cabbages occasionally not only survive frosts and freezes, but are still there in January, sometimes with snow in them. Go check out their supplies in late august.
