Growing Helleborus in Michigan?

Question:When would be the best time to plant Helleborus flowers here in Michigan, I know they bloom in late winter.

Answers:
Hellebores are typically hardy from zones 4-9 and are an early riser in the late winter-early spring. They are deep rooted so work the soil down deeper than usual (12-18 inches.) Make sure the drainage is good. They are typically a shade perennial.

Divisions on adult plants are typically done in the spring and in the spring or fall. It may take a few years for them to get established in your garden. Good luck!

Spring or Fall would probably be best. However, I have divided and replanted them during the Summer with no problems. These are my favorite plants and I have been growing them for 15 years. I find that the original plants are more attractive than all the new hybrids. Good luck-----
