Cast stone products. How are they for outdoor use?

Question:I am interested in a balustrade made of cast stone, but I have doubts about how it would hold up under harsh winters, appearance, and durability. Can anyone inform me of your experiences with a cast stone product please?

"Some of the oldest monuments still around were built with cast stone as many as 2,500 years ago."

I would think that they would last your lifetime!
