Question about a mimosa tree?

Question:Okay so my husband calls me to tell me to come pick up a tree he dug up.. I have always wanted a mimosa tree..
There are roots attached, so what do I do now? I am awesome at growing flowers and shrubbery.. I have never messed with trees before.. So how do I put it in the ground and make sure it lives?

Answers:
Mimosa trees are prolific reseeders, but do not transplant well at all...

Trees are no different than flowers or shrubs, its a plant. When you dig up the tree, try to get as much of the surrounding soil as possible and keep the rootball intact. Prepare the hole for the tree making sure the soil is nutrient rich, either adding compost or top soil.

Be warned though, as I said mimosa trees are prolific reseeders. Once you have one and it goes thru the bloom cycle, you will have several trees sprout. Pull them as soon as possible, before they are even 2" tall, they have a taproot that takes hold like you would not believe! Or spray with Roundup.

They are beautiful, but best out in the country, not a good tree for a city lot. Your neighbors will not like you much at all, because the trees will be coming up in their yards too.
