The American White Berry.. is this the same as the gooseberry?

Question:As I bought an American White Berry plant a while ago now and it is bearing lots of fruit. I was hoping that it is the same because I need to know if we can safely eat it, in pies and crumbles. Please help!

ps If botanical name isn't on the label, & the person selling it doesn't know , it's a bit suspicious , and if you aren't certain of the plant's ID, it's probably not worth the risk of getting ripped off .

I searched "American White Berry " & got 1) a story about some KKKer named Berry ,& 2) National Black Registry entry about Halle Berry's ancestry . Tried "Currant/Gooseberry - American White Berry" & found a listing for ' Imperial White 'Currant.It's a variety from 1895 .Also found seeds for "White Berry" marijuana.
