How long can SCOTT"s lawn fertilizer stay in the bag un-unused after opened?

Question:I bought a big bag at Sams Club, but it's alot more than what I need so I was wondering can I tape up the bag and use it next year or will the fertilize not work effectively if it stored for that long after the bag was opened?

Answers:
Many fertilizers have a coating that breaks down with moisture and/or warm temperatures, so they release the nutrients when the grass can best utilize them. Get as much air out of the bag as possible, then seal it with tape. Place it inside a trashbag, remove the air again, and seal that up. Store the unused fertilizer in a cool, dry location, such as your basement. You lawn should be fertilized again in the fall, so you can use it up then.

If Scott's has an 800 number on the bag for their lawn care help line, try giving them a call. or check out their website.

It will start to lose some of it's effectiveness. Keep the bag sealed tight and you should be able to use it throughout the year.
I don't have a large yard but have no problems after the bag is opened.
