My dwarf pear sets fruits well but each fruitlet goes black starting with a little black spot and drops off.?
Question:The pear tree was a 'patio pear' which a I rescued and planted in my allotment. Now about about 8 years old and 6ft high it leafs and blossoms well. There are other pear trees near by which I hope act as pollinators. The fruitlets drop off when they are about finger nail size a bit before the 'June drop'.
The soil is alluvial clay but I do put down compost etc.
It my problem viral, bacterial or a soil deficiency?
I do not want to get rid of it because it provies a nice bit of shade for my afternoon coffee break.

Answers:
i would have to go with the bacteria it sounds like a fungus if so you will need to spray...good luck
I have had this problem for the last two years with my Conference pear tree and I put it down to the change in the weather. I do however manage to get some pears off the tree. It could be lack of water when the pearlets are forming.
Just use DDT
