What's the best house plant to have?

Question:I'd love to get a house plant but I'm not very green fingered so a plant that isn't easily overwatered etc.
Is there a house plant that flowers at some point in the year?
Any ideas?

Answers:
Definitely Philodendron...It's a vine with large green leaves..just water it every time it rains...(unless of course there's a drought) It's very hardy. and grows well everywhere.

Also the spider plant.but it needs more moisture in the air so mist it with a spray bottle about once a week.

Have fun! Buy one from your local grocery store's floral dept...they are usually very helpful and can offer more advice.

One of the best houseplants is a spider plant as they are not easily killed. I've always had at least one in the house and invariably forget to water it. I've also had Christmas Cacti which are quite hardy and have lovely flowers around Christmas time (hence the name).
plastic.

just kidding, life is good to surround yourself with.
fake or tulps or velvets
A good quality artificial one. Less mess, (no chance of spilling water) no chance of it getting knocked over and spilling dirt everywhere, and you don't have to worry about feeding it, keeping it watered while on vacation.
Geraniums come in a variety of colours. Variegated ones flower for most of the year and are easy to manage.
i am rubbish with plants, can never get any to live for very long but i have a christmas cacti, it has gorgeous flowers on it usually once a year, they come in lots of colours and seem to not mind not getting regular drinks of water. they are available at different times in the year not just christmas.
A plastic one!
cactus...
try easter &xmas cacti or a peace lily only needs water occasionally and has a white flower
A yucca.
I have the following in my home/office:
1. Ponytail palms are inexpensive, graceful, and tolerate drought; see http://www.solanaselect.com/ponytail.htm... They do like some sunlight and live on very little water. I got mine from Lowe's.
2. Dracaena also make good houseplants. There are many different kinds (one type is called "lucky bamboo"). You acn get dracaena from Wal-mart. http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/houseplants...
3. Rubber plants are tough and can grow to 6 feet tall. See http://www.yourdictionary.com/images/ahd... for a photo of one. I got mine from Wal-Mart.
Aspidistra.

It used to be called the "cast iron plant" - it's really hard to kill! Will grow pretty well even in a really gloomy spot in the home. Withstands lack of watering, and overwatering. And re-potting - well you are supposed to avoid that too!

Ideal!
Go to home depot or something and just browse what they have, pick out something that tickles your fancy, they're really not difficult to take care of (for the most part). Don't get african violets, thats for sure! They're impossible to grow =D
this is a very good plant to have, and it states that you really cant kill it, all you need to do is keep it topped up with water,it is called a lucky bamboo, ive had mine for over a year now,and it is thriving,i have found you this link so you can check it out..http://www.chiff.com/a/lucky-bamboo.htm...
get an Aloe vera, or cactus, that way if you forget to water it it won't matter. Alternatily buy a herb such as Oregano and put it in your kitchen window, then when it gets to big you can cut bits off and cook with it, and hopefully if it in sight of the tap you will remeber to water it.
