What is the nhbc standard for a newly laid lawn in an new built home?

Question:I want to know what the standard of depth is allowed before you can lay grass on top of the ground?

Answers:
Builders arnt forced to lay turf but if you have to then it depends on the ground you have. Its needs to be level, a little on the sandy side and raked to a fine tilth before you lay the turf in staggered joints.

Thought the NHBC related to the building work only. I don't think new builds have to have the lawn laid. A lot of companies do. I'm pretty sure however my dad had to rotivate his garden and lay his own lawn when he bought his house.
There's some regulations on how deep pipe work etc have to be under the ground but that's the extent of the external regulations. Try www.nhbc.co.uk should answer any questions you have.
I am sure nhbc don't have any say in the lawn they only insure against critical defects in the building itself. It isn't really that effective either I think your building has really got to be in dire straits before they are of any use to you.
Turf is of no significance to them
