Hi! I live in Maryland and see black rat snakes from time to time in my back yard. They are harmless unless you are a rodent. ;-)

I leave them in peace.

There is a northern black racer which is reported from Maryland but I have not seen it. The link below gives a discussion and list of snakes in Maryland.
