Watermelon Question?
Question:We planted this little bitty watermelon plant and now it is growing everywhere with TONS of yellow flowers. Are ALL of those going to be watermelons?
Answers:
No - not all the flowers will become watermelons two reasons:
1 - Watermellons (like pumpkin) have both male and female flowers. Only the females will produce a melon. The females have a little ball under the flower - good pic here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/watermelon...
2 - Potentially all of the Females can give melons if they are all polinated - depends on how many bees are in your area.
If you want to harvest some watermellons, my recommendation is to limit the number of watermellons per plant. So if a plant has 20 growing, cut some off so you only get a couple which will grow faster.

Nah...only a few will be pollinated and produce.
About half of the flowers are male flowers, which produce the pollen. Only those female flowers which are successfully pollinated will become watermelons, so less than half of the flowers you see will actually be melons. Good luck!
