Lawn Raker and Lawn Scarifier- What's the difference?

Question:I have a very mossy lawn that needs some major raking work. I am looking to buy an electric lawn rake or scarifier. The rake has thin tynes whereas the scarifier has steel blades. Which one would be most suitable?

Answers:
A rake brushes across the surface - to take leaves off for example. A scarifier actually pushes down into the grass - perforating it across the top- to let in air - it is supposed to encourage growth. If you have a mossy lawn, I think a scarifier would be better.

Definitely a scarifier. They are usually more expensive to buy but can be hired for approx £20 a day.
Be prepared to take a lot of dead grass and moss from the lawn and autumn is the best time to do the work.
*a blank expression overwhelms her face as she says... 'what the **** are both of these things?!?'*
