Does anybody know why the A/C is in the backyard instead of in the side of the house? .?
Question:I can't stand sitting in the backyard in a quiet night and all of the sudden the A/C comes on disrupting my peace completely!
Answers:
Part of the AC is in your back yard, buyt part is inside the plenum of your furnace. The part outside acts like a car radiator to cool down the freon flowing between the outside and inside. When you want to go outside, turn off the thermostat and it won't run. Just be sure to turn it back on at some point or the house will get warm.
move it
Usually it's required to be a certain distance from the edge of the property line.
Where I live, you can't have it within 10ft of the property line, and there is only 11 feet between my house and the line on the side, and it's like 2.5 feet wide.
If you move it you may be SUED.
Technically, it can work anywhere, however there may be many reasons why it's where it's at. There may be side yard (property line) issues that prevent anything permanent from being placed too close. There may be zoning issues that consider noise and your neighbors. Your water line, cable, or electric service might come in from the side, and it would not be practical to move your HVAC if you had a utility problem. Your bedroom may be toward the side and it's better not to have the unit(s) right under your window. These are just a few possible reasons.
Call a heating contractor and get a price on moving it. They will also know the codes on where it can be located. The consultation should be free. You can't move it yourself anyway. Might as well talk to a pro.
I am guessing that it is also centered on the house. This saves long runs of ductwork and "centralizes" the airflow so it doesn't travel so far to each end of the house.
