How do keep rabbits off the lawn?

Question:something is creating holes and eating my lawn. we see rabbits around too. we are also the only house in this area of the neighborhood who doesn't have a dog. i would think rabbits would cautiously go into a yard that has a dog. my dad wont get one though he thinks it will downvalue our home when he decides to move. is it the rabbits or something else doing this to the lawn? how do i keep them away?

Answers:
Rabbits have made holes in my yard - right in the middle of the lawn, too, to have their babies. I can tell it's a rabbit hole because at first it looks like a crop-circle, where they go round and round and matt the grass down. Then after they have their babies, there's a big mess over the hole - grass, fur, etc. If the holes you see aren't like this, maybe they're chipmunks or gophers or something else. I've gotten a product from the store called "Liquid Fence" to help keep the rabbits off my lawn - it REALLY stinks when you spray it on, but after it dries you can't smell it so much, and it's pretty expensive. Rabbits are very destructive - if they're only eating your lawn you're lucky - wait til they get at your plants, bushes and trees! I have to have chicken wire around my lilac bushes and other perennials or they'd be gone. I've tried things like cat hair, chili powder, marigolds, etc. - nothing like that works for me. Like you, all my neighbors have dogs, so I think they're coming to my yard for their fun and to be "safe." I've tried live traps too, and that's helped a bit. Good luck!

They're gophers.

Are you sure its rabbits and not gophers? Well just catch them and set them lose in some far off place.
If the holes are every where like in the flower beds and in the lawn, it might be armadillos instead of rabbits. Try planting or just throw carrots in the neighbors yard.
I don't know if this works for rabbits, but if you have deer problems, call your local zoo. The US zoos give away (you have to go pick it up) big cat ( lion/tiger) scat (poo) and this frightens away deer. I don't see why it wouldn't scare away rabbits, too. Sorry for the excess use of parentheses! Good luck.
Get a cat.

Except, do rabbits make holes? They just nibble don't they? I know they dig holes to lay in, but not in the middle of the lawn, just in dirt. Could it be moles or gophers or shrews?
