What time is the best time of the day to water a vegetable garden?

When watering you want to make sure the soil is well moistened. This can be time consuming, but it is better to water thoroughly once a week than to give your garden a brief shower every day. Never use a spray nozzle on a hose, it delivers either too strong a flow or an inefficient mist. The best way of controlling water flow is to use your thumb. Always try to water the base of the plants, but in times of meager rainfall you can give the foliage an occasional spray as well. The best time to water is in the morning, but the warnings against mid-day watering are over done. Late evening is probably the worst time to water, as it leaves the foliage damp at night when molds and fungi are most active. But never let a bone-dry garden go without watering simply because you can't do it at the optimum time of day.
I water mine in the evening after the sun has gone down. It doesn't evaporate from the heat as fast and is retained in the soil.
Chinese believe early morning is the best...and they've been doing that for centuries.
If you live in a humid climate or your garden has trouble getting air through it..heavily enclosed...evening watering might promote diseases as the foliage may not dry. I often water at night but then the foliage doesn't get wet.
Daytime watering looses a lot to evaporation, so is just not efficient.
Daytime wilting is usually temporary and will recover overnight, but if you know the daytime wilting is due to very dry soil, I'd water right then anyway, to heck with evaporation.
I've always watered my garden (veg & flower) during the day w/enough time for the plants to dry. They have a higher risk of fungus if they stay wet at night
It's best to water at night - before dusk. You should never water during the hottest time of the day.

Your plants feet/roots sit in the water too long causing too many possible negatives to the plants.
I water in early evening or morning. Watering during the day is not efficient as a lot of water evaporates. No offense to those who believe that evening watering can cause mold or fungus but, in the morning when I go out to check the garden, all the leaves are wet with dew. No mold or fungus so far.
I like to water early in the morning, as this gives the plants' roots time to absorb the water before the heat of the midday, although late afternoon (never evening or later) also works.
put in a good watering system and water in the early moring. a drip system will cut down on evaparation,and will use less water.
early moring or late after noon, not when the sun shine on the plants, dont worry about mold, it rains too right..
