Basil growed goes ugly?
Question:My basil plant that I love, growed in a huge pot with all kind of cares, watering and fertilizing, became in a stained brown ugly plant.
Somebody can tell me why this happened and what I have to do?

Sounds as though you may have over-watered the plant. Not just in the volume of water, but also the time of day AND the way you did it. First, water when the soil feels dry to the touch. Most plants do not like to 'stand' in water. Be sure the pot has drainage holes in the bottom to permit excess water to escape. Second, water the plants in the morning - early enough that the sun can dry any moisture on the leaves before evening - moist foliage at night promotes all kinds of plant problems. If you spray the water on the plant try to minimize the amount that falls on the foliage - water at the base of the plant if possible. Also, be sure your plant has 7-8 hours of sunshine. One other thing - you mention fertilizer - be careful not to overfertilize your plants, especially those grown in pots. Be sure to follow instructions on the package. Excess fertilizer will do more damage than too little. Good luck!!
maybe if u GROWN it, it would hav been fine
First you probably know that your either supposed to water plants in the morning or at night , but I also heard that if you are watering them at night then it can cause mildew in the soil which makes the plant become spotted with brown spots. Therefore water them in the moring. If you already do then I'm not sure.
It was probably over watered or not pruned. You have to prune it back and eveutually the stalks die, but make new ones. You have to continually prune it back. I put mine in an outdoor pot and I find it grew better out back on my patio than indoors in a window.
Could be , a: too much water, b: over-fertilized, c:fungus, or d: other possibilities (like infestation). If you have a nursery (plant, not child) near you, take the plant to them and ask if they can tell you, so you don't make the same mistake twice.
basil and all of the other herbs should be planted outside.they do terrible in pots.plant in a partial sun/shade area, and don't over water them.acouple times a week is perfect.
You should have picked it and made Pesto when it was green! Too late now.
BASIL IS AN ANNUAL, THAT MEANS IT ONLY LIVES 1 YEAR. THEN IT DIES. REPLACE IT
yup - an annual - get another one - also it burns in too much sunlight - needs to be shaded.
Any number of things: basil is an annual, which means it's "ready" in a certain number of days. When it's past ready, it dies. Too much water or fertilizer or too much or little light are possibilities. If you smoke and don't wash your hands before you tend your plant, it could become infected with tobacco mosaic virus, which looks like thin brown lines running randomly through the leaves. If the leaves had yellowish or rusty-colored spots first, probably bugs--check the underside of leaves (maybe with a magnifying glass) for spider mites(light beige), aphids (reddish purple), or white flies (white). Another bug problem is gnats, or fruitflies. They lay their eggs right under the top of the soil, and the babies chew up the roots. I'd check out these things, toss the old one, wash the pot, use new dirt, and start another one. There are also many types of basil, so if the pot is "huge," you might try two or three different kinds.
