My squash and zucchini have slowed down? Why?

Question:I live on the gulf coast the summer is gettting hotter. Before I couldn't keep up with them, I was giving them away by the dozen now it almost stopped. I have a few but they became mushy. Is there a life span on these plants?

Answers:
Most plants slow down on production when the temps get too hot. Once it cools down some they should start producing again.

Yes they do not bear forever...I think you could plant some new seeds and get more ....Zucchini grows fast.
give them steriods!

MAYBE THEYLL GET THE ROID RAGE!! AND DESTORY THE OTHER VEGGIES!
When this happens start taking off the old dead leaves and stocks, the plant is putting too much energy into "saving" these. Then it can put all its power into the new fruit. Usually this happens around Sept. first, but I think your growing season starts earlier than ours.
they probably have given all they're going to give this season
Check the hollow stems of the squash leaves..do you see signs of entry from "borers" (squash bugs)? Also there are insects that bore right into the fruit itself..I lived in Panama City Beach Florida , on the gulf coast nine years..check out my squash plants grown there on page 11 of my flickr page...I have had this problem before..and it was squash bugs..here are some links as well on squash insects
