What are these tiny red bugs in my grass?
Question:We just got sod in the backyard. It is a fescue/bluegrass mix. I was sitting in the grass today, and noticed LOTS of super tiny reddish brown bugs. I couldn't tell how many legs they had.
What could they be?
What should I do?
Answers:
They are called clover mites and, yes, they DO bite. Get an insecticide that lists clover mites and do the job You might complain to you sod provider and have them do the deed.
i dont know the exact name of the bug but i do know one thing.. those bugs are used to make red food coloring... kinda gross but interesting.
umm just guessing maybe..... lady bugs
Could be chiggers.
We call them red bugs here. and Wow can they bite.
I would go back to wHere I got it and talk to them about it.
Are you sure it isn't lady bugs?
if there really small, don't touch. There called chiggers. and they burrough into your skin and can cause a rash that itches like crazy

Harvest mites, commonly known as chiggers or red bugs

sounds like mites. If they are the ones I think they are I wouldnt worry about them.
A lady bug is red but has some black spots on them.. they love aphids ....If it is very tiny just bigger than a grain of sand, it is a tiny gnat...they usually come around before a rain ......
Hopefully they're not chiggers, you'll know in about 2 - 3 days!
We have bugs like that around here, we call them spider mites. We just let them be, they don't bite. At least I don't know anyone that has ever been bitten by them.
