Un-named plant I would like to identify?

Question:I have a bush in my front yard that was put in by my former landlord about 15 years ago. It is a small bush with little green leaves and yellow flowers in the summer time. It has been around for 15 years and is starting to slow down. I would like to replace it with the same bush when it does go. Can anyone help me identify it. I can email pics of it if you email me at Bobboch316@yahoo.com. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a goldfinger potentilla. I'm going to try to past a link so you can look at it, if it doesn't work ... do a search for the name and you'll find lots of pictures.

Potentillas can be trimmed back to rejuvenate the plant and generate new blooms. I ususally trim mine back in the fall. And I trim back alot, probably half the size of the bush. I read you can also trim them in the spring, although I've never tried that. I worry I'll cut off the blooms for this year.

Good luck finding the name of your plant, I immediately thought of this plant while reading your question.

it might be a forsythia.
Could be cassia--are the blooms a bright and pure yellow?
Sometimes shrubs can be rejuvenated by a severe pruning. I would wait til early fall or late winter, if you do.
Why not just take a branch to the garden center?
