SOAPWORT or BOUNCING BELL. It has large divided leaves a perennial producing flowering stems 1 to 3 feet high from a creeping rhizome . The leaves are opposite strongly ribbed and not hairy. The scented flowers which are pinkish white and which have only 2 styles are visited bt hawk-moths. It is fairly common near villages and streamsides,and the leaves at one time were used to make soap. They flower from July-September.
