How to care for a crept murtle tree in south FL?

Question:Yearly trimming of the tree

Answers:
I live in Texas and have several. The main thing that i do is when the tree is somewhat established determine 3 or 4 major tree limbs (since they grow in a butch) trim back the remaining suckers. (those are the small sprouts that grow around the root stump). And also trim up the suckers to a reasonable height. If you don't trim it it will just grow into a large bush. Also one of the main problems with the tree is powdery mildew. to cure this go to your local nursery and consult with a master gardener. Other than this they are easily grown. Water and feed periodically. Good Luck

Why are you asking how to look after a tree in florida on a european answers site?
It's Crepe Myrtle. Go by local plant nursery and ask their advice. Most are happy to help.
First of all, don't commit 'Crape Murder'.don't top the tree so that you prune off all branches at the top of the plant. You can't prevent the tree from growing tall, if you want to do that then don't plant a Crape. The best way to keep a Crape from growing to gangly is to prune off any suckers (small branches growing from the base of the tree) unless you are going for a multi-branched trunk.other than that, let the tree grow as tall as it wants.
