Lavendar - leaves and middle turning black?
Question:Does anyone know why and is there a cure? The flowers seem to be still growing but all the leaves have turned black and also the inside of the plant.
Answers:
Leave the plant as it is - in late Sept to early October - cut back the flowered stalks but don't cut into woody stems.
Lavenders like DRY, lime based soil and will thrive under these conditions - they can survive cold or wet - but not both together.
The blackening of the leaves is down to the rain - the leaves are rotting. They have been subjected to to much water.
Keep a close eye on the flowers and when ready - harvest the seeds ready for next year. Although, the seeds are sometimes quite hard to grow
I think you will find it is due to the wet weather...ideally lavendar thrives in dry conditions. And as far as I'm aware there is no cure.
Why not get some rooting powder and take some cuttings off of your plants whilst they are still comparatively healthy. You will have new plants that you can transplant out for next year then.
...don't do anything about the black...you will be called a racist.
There is only one disease fatal to lavendar called shab. Horrid name. This website has very good info on looking after you're plants,I refer to it all the time.
