How do I repair dead crabgrass patches on my lawn?
Question:Yellow patches/holes formed after I sprayed crabgrasses in my lawn. I was wondering how I can repair those patches with grass. Thanks!
Answers:
you'll have to break away all the dead grass with a hoe and lay some good topsoil down (miracle grow is a good one). Then put some grass seed down, you'll have no patches soon!
Well, this is a tough time of year to get grass to germinate. I'd suggest a quick germinating seed variety.. Scotts offers one.. it's called, like.. quick patch or something..
anyway.. remove the dead grasses, roots and all. hand sow seeds in the bare spot and work the seeds in with a garden claw or rake.. the seed should be under the soil for the best start. sprinkle a little starter fertilizer over the seeded area and cover with a little sand an peat moss mixed together (50-50). Water in the areas and keep them moist until the new grass is well established. be sure the areas are kept MOIST.. seeds won't germinate if it's too dry.. this happens easily in the summer.. like now.
Next spring, apply a crabgrass pre-emergent (like Halts) before the soil temperature gets to 70 degrees. If you do this, you won't have this problem next year.
