It's maybe a little late to plant veggies.. you could try beans, they might be able to grow and fruit before frost.. corn??
Well, it's a little late but corn and okra could still be planted and have time to grow before the end of fall.
If you can wait another month, you could still plant green beans...just be sure to give them water on hot days.
You could plants some peas, they grow quickly. I also just planted some potatoes a week ago and they are coming out of the ground already.
Good luck!
Oh dear... Nurseries may very well be all out of seedlings by now, and it is kind of late for you to start anything from seed.
But try garlic! You can plant softneck for a late fall harvest. Not a promising one, but... a harvest at that. Or even some early potatoes, for a fall harvest.
You can always use some herbs, can't you? Oregano, basil for pesto, etc.
