SOS ! Emerald Ash Borers !?
Question:I have 2 trees in my yard which have been decimated by Emerald Ash Borers. One of the trees wasn't even an Ash tree. I think I've found them invading another tree on my property. What can I do to save the tree ? Is there anything I can do to rehab the other tree that was killed that wasn't an Ash ?
Answers:
That sucks. I have a few ash but I am in Ohio. Hope it does not reach here. One site says that don't try any "fly by night'" cures.??
This is out of Wisconsin but may have something worthwhile to read.?? Second out of Micxhigan may be helpful.

In my area, we have an Extension Office out of Ohio State University. If you have such there--out of a state university--I think they may be able to help you--if there is help available.
Good luck to you. You might also just type Emerald Ash Borer into the search web and get more information.
How have they decimated your trees? Emerald Ash Borer is a borer. It lives and feeds under the bark. It takes years for the EAB to kill ash trees in North America. The only way to know that you have EAB is to identify the "D" shaped exit holes. EAB does not attack any other tree. They only feed on ash trees. There is no known history of EAB attacking a non-ash tree in North America. Your trees would be the first. Here is a site that provides info on EAB: http://www.emeraldashborer.info/...
Are your leaves being eaten by a copper/emerald flying insect? Are the leaves skeletonized (leaf eaten but veins are left)? If so, then you may have Japanese Beetles. They feed on any tree or shrub in the rose family. Birch, Cherry, Crabapple, Pear, Linden and Mountain Ash are all examples of trees in the rose family. Japanese Beetle will not kill your trees. Control is difficult on a large tree. Properly water your affected trees and provide mild fertilization this fall.
Here are a couple of sites on Japanese Beetle: http://www.extension.umn.edu/distributio...
