Why do weeds stay green in drought conditions?

Question:We are dry here where I live andI have to water the grass every other day to keep it green, where I haven't watered everything is brown, except for the weeds! They are bright green still..

Answers:
Weeds have an extensive root system, and shallow enough to trap and store water. They spread out like fans. That gives them an advantage over ornamental grass

Some weeds have a deep, tap root, while others have shallow, spread out roots

And like the poster said above, being native to the area they're adapted to the weather and local conditions, so their survival is guaranteed.

Weeds tend to have deeper roots, and steal the available water away from the grass with short roots.
It's because they're demon possesed.
LOL.
I dunno, but weeds is all I can grow anyway!
Their root system must go deeper than the surrounding grass, thus allowing them to access the moisture at that deeper level.
They are better equipped to retain moisture and chlorophyll and other pigments than grass, due to their thick, borad leaf structure.
Weed are by definition native species and are nearly perfectly adapted to live in your area without irrigation, things you plant are usually not.
Because they have a direct line to the center of the earth.
I only grow weeds in my lawn. I never bother with grass. I just mow the weeds, and I never water either. It's green, so I don't care. I'm not trying to keep a freakin' Golf Course!
I like the moss that grows in my yard, too. It never needs mowing and it's beautiful in my eyes.
deeper roots
That's why weeds are weeds--survival of the fittest. If they couldn't take the conditions, they wouldn't survive, and wouldn't be weeds!
