Depending on the grass, a regular fertilizing schedule is the best. Watering is essential this time of year, but grass will go dormant ( similar to winter-time conditions) if stressed by to little rain and too much heat. The best you can do is wait it out and not overuse the water.
I am getting rid of all but a small patch of my grass and planting native perennials. They use much less water when established!
